Our Rehabilitation Institute Opens this June
Construction is currently underway on our new 18-bed comprehensive medical inpatient rehabilitation unit, scheduled to open June 1, 2012.
Adults age 55 and over represent the fastest growing age segment in Lewisville and the surrounding areas. Here at Medical Center of Lewisville, we are uniquely positioned to service this population with our current initiatives for 2012, including stroke accreditation, interventional and cardiovascular surgery, and the Rehabilitation Institute.
The Rehabilitation Institute will provide comprehensive inpatient physical rehabilitation services, including focused nursing care, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and more. Patients will be provided personalized care that allows them to return to an independent lifestyle based on individual abilities.
The Rehabilitation Institute will deliver care based on an interdisciplinary team approach, meaning all members of the treatment team are equally responsible for the patient’s overall improvement in every aspect of his of her care. This team will work together with the patient and family members to address their needs and determine the most appropriate individual care plan. The goal of rehabilitation is to help the patient become as independent as possible in his or her daily life, including mobility and other functional skills, and to facilitate re-entry into the home and community.
Admission to the Rehabilitation Institute is based upon an individual’s demonstrated inability to perform self-care or mobility activities, and upon a reasonable expectation that the patient can increase his or her ability to function independently, and the patient must demonstrate a medical need for rehabilitation. Patients can be referred to the Rehabilitation Institute by physicians, discharge planners, health professionals, third-party payers, social service professionals, family, friends or self.
